Caught in my netI don't go to a lot of group shoots because I like to work at my own pace and it's easier to work with one model than trying to think of different ideas for a lot of different models. At this shoot I ended up focusing on two models mostly, although I shot four. The two girls I focused on were Nina and Dollie. Two very lovely girls. Both around 5ft tall. We all shot at Phil's house and he had a net hanging in the backyard. It made a great prop for the shoot. Anytime I shoot out of the studio I open up the aperture really wide which was important in this shoot since the background would have been way too busy. I can't wait until Medium Format digital is affordable (either it gets cheaper or I get richer) so I can really open up the lens. I did also shoot Shauntia, but for long enough. I actually came up with an awesome idea to shoot with her. Nina

Very KnightlyLast Sunday I had the opportunity to shoot with Erica. She is a gorgeous model. She had a few outfits we shot in the studio. For the most part it had a fashiony feel. I'm going to cut down on most of my fashion shoots unless they get me exposure or are paid. Sometimes I get caught up in the desire to shoot and will just book shoot because I love to shoot, but I have to start thinking about how I'm going to work Photography into a full-time career. I've been looking into a travel company where you pay a fee like Costco and get discounts on trips. I want to book some shoots in other locations along the coastlines. Enjoy some time on the beach this summer. I shot this set at Phil Branson's house.

Scared of the DarkWith the sun going down sooner I wanted to try a night shoot with my portable flash. I picked up some new Hybrid batteries that performed pretty well. I've shot at night before, but I wanted to try something brighter and not just using available light. Jezebelle volunteered to pose for me. We started out in downtown Phoenix. The Library there had these beautiful sheets of frosted glass that were backlit. I used my flash on a hotshoe to splash a little red in some of the shots. I couldn't look at the glass without thinking sparkles so I added some digitally. I didn't like the other shots away from the glass as much. The light was too harsh with the flash alone. I used a mini-plastic softbox made for flashes, but I think next time I'll just use my umbrella to create a softer light. I want to make an entire studio filled with nothing but frosted, backlit glass. Anyways, without further ado:

On the GroundsThis weekend I had a chance to shoot with Jada. This is our first of what will hopefully be many times working together. She has a lovely figure and beautiful olive skin. I didn't really have a plan for the shoot, I just figured we would drive around and see what we found. We ended up shooting near her place. Fortunately, there didn't seem to be anyone around to bug us while shooting. We also did some shots in her bathroom and living room. I have these mini-strobes that I thought would add a lot of light, but didn't add much at all. Not sure why though. It doesn't matter, I got to shoot with a 2.0 aperture which always gives me a nice soft background. Here are the images from the shoot:

Harken Back on Christmas DayMerry Christmas to everyone. I decided to go back to some photos I took this past summer. Some underwater shots taken when the weather was wonderful to swim in. I did an underwater shoot with Amber. Pretty cool pool, the surface of the pool was cracking and getting a little old so it added a lot of cool texture.

Melissa and the FishermenI had a chance to shoot with Melissa Moxie recently. We were going to shoot more, but I didn't properly think how difficult it would be to tie a rope corset in that terrain. The rope kept catching on everything on the ground and was difficult to tie so we stuck with a few simple shots. We shot the day before she left for Thailand. I was hoping the location would be abandoned because of the time of year, but it turns out it's a popular fishing spot. Not too long after I told her the coast was clear and she got topless a father and son came around the corner heading to the fishing hole. Fortunately my portliness makes good cover for a model. As we walked to a new location she wore a shirt and panties and the fishermen didn't even notice. Waste deep in water fishing, ah the simple joys of life...not. Anyways please enjoy the fruits of our labor and let me know what you think.
